In the Beginning…

Even as I sit here looking at these photos,  knowing that twenty years have passed, it still seems like yesterday.  Years of planning, a couple of garage sales, selling houses and cars, the reality of moving aboard for an extended period of time is reduced to the contents of a U-Haul trailer.  Talk about freedom!   And, a four-letter word fear!

We did not depart on Sandpiper.  Beowulf, a 1982 Cape Dory 36, had been our boat for 11 years; we spent another 3 years as liveaboards before purchasing our current boat, a Schucker 436 motorsailer.

  2. One of the Schucker Motor Sailors gave me your website. I am the oldest daughter of James Schucker who was owner of the Schucker Yachts designed the Motorsailer. I always love hearing things about my dads boats. So glad I got to see your website. I got to sail with my dad on his 50’ which he lived on full time for many years. I am truly grateful for these memories. Enjoy.

    • Thank you for your thoughts. We met your father at a Schucker rendezvous several years ago. His boats live on, giving many folks years of pleasure on the water. So grateful it has extended our time cruising. Martha
